How To Ask A Friend To Be One Of Your Three Emergency Contacts
Your best emergency contacts are other realtors…
- They live by their phones, so they’re far more likely to see the call the second it comes in.
- They already understand how real the danger is.
- And because they get it, they’re the contacts most likely to actually follow through and call 911 without hesitation.

Before you add someone to your Big Red Button call list, they need to know what you’re asking of them… and agree to it. That’s a real responsibility, and it only works if they understand it ahead of time… instead of scratching their head when “the call” comes in.
What to say…
“I use a safety app called The Big Red Button for my real estate showings and open houses. If I’m ever in a situation where I feel unsafe, I tap a button on my phone and it automatically calls three emergency contacts and tells them to get police to my location.”
“I’d like to add you as one of the three.”
“If you ever get that call, dial my number and ask me ONE question. “Do you need help?”
If I answer “Yes” then IMMEDIATELY hang up and call 911. Everything they need will be in the alert.”
Ask them straight out if they’re able to do that: “Can I count on you to do that without hesitating, if it ever came to it?”
If they say “Yes”…
Right then, have them save the Alert Number in their contacts, labeled with something like “EMERGENCY ALERT”… plus your name. That keeps the call from getting marked as spam, and it means they’ll recognize it instantly… if it ever comes in.

If they hesitate, or say “No”…
That’s useful information too. Better to know NOW than to find out during an actual emergency. Ask someone else who can commit.
What they should do if the call ever comes…
Once someone agrees to be your contact, make sure they read the full instructions for what to do if they receive the alert call. (Instructions will be emailed to them by the system.)
The short version:
- Don’t wait. Simply call and ask “Do you need help?”
- Don’t drive to the location.
- And don’t assume it’s a false alarm.
Just treat every alert as real and get police on the way.
That’s the whole job…
